T-shirt row’ causes Saudi Arabia-based Turkish Super Cup final to be postponed

The Turkish Super Cup last among Galatasaray and Fenerbahce planned to be played in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, on Friday was deferred over what the clubs have portrayed as "a few issues" in the occasion's association.

At the core of those issues, as per media reports, was the wish of the two groups to wear Shirts including the organizer behind current Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, during the warm-up before the night start off.

Saudi state television added that the issues originated from the groups not complying with match guidelines. An assertion from coordinators said: "We were anticipating holding the coordinate on time as per the worldwide soccer decides and guidelines that require the game to be introduced with next to no mottos outside its degree, particularly since this was examined with the Turkish league in the system of the preliminary gatherings for the match.

"In spite of this arrangement, tragically the two groups didn't stick to what had been settled upon, which prompted the match not being held."

The episode came in the midst of a new warming of relations among Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Turkey's leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visited Saudi Arabia in July in the midst of endeavors to fix conciliatory ties following the 2018 homicide of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul.
