Mushfiqur is the first Bangladeshi to 'handle the ball' out
Brief score on day 1: Bangladesh 104/5 in 41 overs (Miraj 0*, Dipu 21*,
Mushfiq 35, Shanto 9, Muminul 5, Joy 14, Zakir 8)
Mushfiqur Rahim became the first Bangladeshi batsman to get out by blocking the ball with his hand, which is known as 'handling the ball' out. He kept Bangladesh in a comfortable position with Shahadat Hossain Dipoo's partnership of fifty. But he had to leave the field after blocking the ball with his hand. The former captain scored 35 runs off 83 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. The pair of 57 runs was broken. Bangladesh lost 5 wickets for 104 runs.
Mushfiq defended the fourth ball of the 41st over. The ball bounced on the ground. The ball was nowhere near the offstump. But what do you
think the Bangladeshi batsman hit the ball with his right hand?
New Zealand pleads obstructing the field. The third umpire gave the
out decision after seeing the replay. Mushfiq could not believe his mind.
He returned to the pavilion with his head down.
